Mack Phillips has joined snack company Second Nature Brands as its new chief supply chain officer.

Most recently site director at Mars Wrigley, Phillips will lead Second Nature’s end-to-end supply chain, including plant-level procurement, production planning, manufacturing and distribution.

The snack company, which includes such brands as Kar's Nuts, Second Nature Snacks and Sanders Chocolates in its portfolio, points to responsible sourcing one of its core tenets. This includes adopting sustainable and renewable energy practices; reducing energy and water use; supporting local farmers and communities; and complying with local human rights and labor laws.

Phillips spent more than two decades with Mars Wrigley, tasked with safety, quality, operations and strategic master-planning responsibilities across several locations. Site director roles included those at Mars' mega-factory in Tennessee; its Snacks factory in Georgia; and the Ethel M premium chocolate factory in Nevada.

Victor Mehren, Second Nature Brands CEO, cited Phillips as a proven leader who’s known for his skills in talent development and creating highly engaged teams.

"As our new chief supply chain officer, he has a critical role in ensuring that production of our snacks and treats products keeps pace with our high growth agenda,” Mehren added. “This is especially important in today's increasingly complex supply chain environment."

Second Nature Brands is in growth mode, having opened a new innovation center at its Sanders Factory in Michigan in June and brought to market more than 25 new products across all of its brands this year. The company sells through both retail and direct-to-consumer.
